LEADING INTERNSHIPS FOR NEW KNOWLEDGE
Project Proposal
Internship Site: Conocophillips Natural Gas Extraction Plant - Bloomfield, NM
My Mentor: Brian Farley
My Mentor is a civil engineer in a natural gas extraction plant in Bloomfield New Mexico. My mentor will be introducing me careers in the field of natural gas and petroleum. The main purpose he serves me in this project is to lead me through my goals and help me find out where I want to go with my career in the future. At Conocophillips Brian Farley is a newer civil engineer where he inspects the plant and makes sure that the plant is running for as many days possible each year. His biggest goal within the organization is to ensure that the plant makes the most money that it can without having to be shut down for repairs and maintenance.
My Goals:
Throughout this program I will be trying to accomplish many goals while working with COP. My mentor has assigned me a few task already which include learning UAV controls and learning the structure and layout of the plant. Once arrived at the plant my first goal is to meet all of the engineers that I will be working with and I will make sure to introduce myself to everyone I get the honor to work with. The goals of this project are for me to bring home a visual piece of how I examined the plant as it nears a turn around where the plant is turned off and it’s parts are rebuilt and renewed with new or replacement parts. I will also create a video of me inspecting flare tips on 210 foot burner stacks. My main goal from this project is to figure out what field of engineering I would like to go into when I’m older.
My Link Project:
My LINK project is very beneficial towards myself and towards the company of ConocoPhillips. Through my three weeks of internships over at COP the plant will receive extra assistance on its way to the couple week turn around. A big role I will play in this is through inspecting burner flare tips with a remote control drone that will hover and fly up to high altitudes while carrying a go pro camera. Through this video, pictures, diagrams and math that I produced while working at COP I believe I can compose all of this onto a couple poster boards with a laptop for my videos to show what I learned down in Bloomfield.
Research:
The skills and knowledge I will need to require throughout and before this internship is to learn the correct process of maneuvering and operating drones and learning basic math skills through the entire process. In this field of science I believe that there are a bunch of confusing terms and math that I can’t learn without first hand experience so a lot of this research will be on the job site.
Process:
The resources and people I will need throughout this project will be the internet and my mentor Brian Farley. I believe any task I am given can be completed through the help of the internet and him. Once the second week of my internships has been finished I will then begin to construct a presentation for that following friday. I believe the process of this will be quite simple once it’s all begun.
Reflection:
For my internship I’ve gone through a lot of hoops and made a lot of calls to be where I am today. I believe I’m blessed to have an internship with a company and the same field that I want to be with. This whole process has been quite hard yet rewarding so far and I believe that it’ll continue to be more rewarding as we move on into the future. I am honestly stoked about my internship and can feel the excitement racing through myself as we move down the road. I’ve learned that college and careers aren’t a joke through this process because it really shows the true difficulty to obtain jobs and to get into college and this has been a real experience and am excited to continue it.
