Transnational Capital Auction Writing
1. If my country had won the bid the consequences on would be dramatic. It seems to get a corporate business to move to your country you have to sacrifice the integrity of your people and your environment. If I won the bid my people would be making money and would be hired, yet they would be in poor work conditions where a union and health regulations aren’t cared about. The people of my country would be subject to the conditions around their homes too for pollution would be heavy and unregulated. My people would be very unhappy and their environment would be destroyed. I wouldn’t want my country to have poor conditions for more money.
2. Too a certain degree I agree that developing countries need to invest in transnational companies. If these companies want to lower the living of life and ruin the environment in the area I don’t think it’s right. When it comes to Child labor laws and to pay of people I believe you need to be reasonable. I believe you could work a 12 year old in the right department or wherever if he needed the money that bad. If he is in suitable conditions that don’t risk his life it’s fine with me. In other countries people can easily live off 2 dollars a day. So depending on the location of my citizens I would decide minimum wage for them.
3. To prevent this race to the bottom I believe countries have to work together. To prevent inadequate conditions and environment in poor countries everyone needs to work together. The best thing these countries could do is have a meeting and agree to have a mutual cartel against corporations. This would make it too where there prices are still lower than wealthy countries but they are getting what they deserve. I believe the wealthier countries needs to give them assistant in creating a pact for global wellness. If this happened there would be less poor, hunger and pollution.
4. I believe this company feels they need to move their factory for they aren’t pocketing enough profit. The pay these workers are taking is quite high. They would like to employ Americans but it is getting hard for them due to the large pay. If they moved the company they could employ around 16 or more people for the price they pay one American. This would increase production by an enormous amount and would raise profit through the roof due to the payment of materials at the same of lower prices. The company is having trouble sustaining itself in America’s economy.
5. The Race to the bottom is affecting Americans for it is taking jobs away from the American Economy. If enough American’s went jobless there would be a race to the bottom that we start and it would end up happening to us. This could affect us because one day there might not be enough jobs in our country. We will have to compete for employment and a fiscal deficit would appear and show itself turning the American economy into a downpour.
6. Galtung would say the race to the bottom shows violence on so many different levels. He would say the environment, the people and the society of the country would basically be intended to be hurt. He would say that the entire process is violent for it hurts almost everyone in its path. This relates the violence and peace for there is nothing peaceful about this. The country might be trying to create peace with more mo
